The University of Pretoria LLM Scholarship usually run an intensive one-year programme in which 25-30 outstanding applicants will have to run six months programme in Pretoria while the other six months will take place at one of other twelve partner universities across Africa. Graduates join the HRDA Alumni Association, which has 537 members working in a variety of human rights fields, from grassroots initiatives to global entities like the African Union and the United Nations.
Eligibility requirements for University of Pretoria LLM Scholarship
To qualify for this scholarship initiative, prospective candidates must complete the following requirements:
- Be a citizen of an African country.
- Apply for the Master’s Degree (LLM/MPhil) in Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa at the Centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria.
- Possess a first degree in Law (LLB, licence en droit, or licenciatura em direito) or an Honours degree related to human rights and democratisation.
- Demonstrated commitment to human rights and democracy in Africa.
- Ability to use the qualification in a future career, ideally in your native country.
- Balanced regional and gender representation.
- Equitable representation of disadvantaged communities, including disabled, indigenous, and LGBTI individuals.
Duration and Benefits of 2024 University of Pretoria LLM
- Up to 25 African citizens can receive full scholarships that include tuition, accommodation, and programme activities, based on funding availability.
- Self-funding or partial self-funding students may be admitted if they meet basic requirements.
- Participants spend six months in Pretoria and six months at one of 12 partner universities in Africa.
