The Iowa State University Master’s Scholarship is an assistantship overseen by Dr. Adam Janke. Dr. Janke is looking for M.S. graduate assistants to work on a collaborative research study assessing bird and bird habitat responses to cattle grazing in Iowa’s Conservation Reserve Programme Grassland. The student will work with a team of students and instructors to investigate numerous environmental consequences of grazing, such as the effects on birds, plants, soil health, greenhouse emissions, water quality, and cow production. This Farm Services Agency-funded study will take place on private farms in Iowa beginning in the summer of 2025.

Qualifying criteria for the Iowa State University Master’s Scholarship

To be eligible for the Iowa State University Master’s Scholarship, applicants must:

  • Educational Background: Hold a Bachelor’s degree in wildlife ecology or a closely related field.
  • Skills and Attributes: Possess good organizational skills, attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and excellent communication skills.
  • Relevant Experience: Have experience in bird survey methodologies, working with agricultural producers or on private lands, plant identification, and quantitative analysis (highly competitive).
  • Academic Requirements: Maintain an undergraduate and graduate GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Driver’s License: Hold a valid driver’s license or have the ability to obtain one.
